The scholarship assistance is to support the post secondary education of qualified recipients, and the funds may be awarded to one person or divided among multiple individuals. The recipient must have been accepted by or enrolled at a post secondary educational institution to receive an award, and awards are limited to undergraduate degree program candidates. An individual may not receive scholarship awards more than four times.

To qualify for a scholarship award the applicant must submit a request not later than June 1st to the Rhode Island State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America at P.O. Box 5551, Wakefield, Rhode Island 02880. The request must be co-signed by the Vietnam Veterans of America member and must include all necessary contact information (address, telephone and e-mail of the applicant and Vietnam Veterans of America member, if different) and a statement of the applicant's education and career plans. Proof of admission or qualification for continued enrollment for other than the first year of attendance must accompany the application.

Scholarships will be awarded at the June meeting of the State Council (typically on the fourth Wednesday of the month), and recipients will be notified of the award as soon thereafter as is feasible. Presentation of the scholarship will be at a time and in a manner agreed upon by the State Council and the recipient and Vietnam Veterans of America member or by mail to the recipient.

The Rhode Island State Council reserves the right to make all decisions regarding this program, to select recipients of the award, to determine amounts to be awarded, both collectively and to individual recipients, and in general how to conduct the solicitation, award and grant of scholarship awards.
